Arlene Ward, M.Ed., RRP

Owner & Vocational Rehabilitation Consultant

Arlene has been practicing community-based rehabilitation program development, implementation and education since the late 1980’s. She is the owner of Genesis Rehabilitation and has completed an undergraduate degree in Family Life Sciences, a Master’s degree in Education with a Community Rehabilitation specialization, and maintains her teaching credentials for the Province of BC. Arlene currently is an Adjunct Professor at the University of Northern British Columbia. From 2003 to 2007 she served on the Board of Directors at WorkSafeBC contributing her extensive knowledge of rehabilitation and disability management processes.

Codie Booth, MA Counselling Psychology, BA, RRP, RCC

Vocational Rehabilitation Consultant

Codie has been part of the Genesis team for more than 10 years. Codie also has particular skill in accessing resources to assist Genesis’ clients to be placed into gainful employment. She is passionate about assisting clients in adjustment to disability through client centred goal setting and attainment. She has a Master of Arts in Counselling Psychology, a Bachelor of Arts in Human Geography, and holds the designations of Registered Rehabilitation Professional (RRP) and Registered Clinical Counsellor (RCC).

Shazia M. Aly, Micro MBA Certification, BA

Operations Manager

Shazia has over 8 years experience in business management with a focus on creating integrated and streamlined operational practices that prioritize clients and funders. In her role as Operational Manager, she is responsible for the oversight of administrative processes, handling accounts payable/receivable, management of confidential documents and referrals. She has extensive experience in public relations from an intercultural and multinational perspective including social media, print based, digital and televised marketing. Her ongoing goal is to promote a work environment at Genesis that focuses on respect, teamwork, communication and performance.

Alison Courtney, BSc (Kin.), BCAK

Rehabilitation Consultant

Alison received her Bachelor of Science degree in Kinesiology at Dalhousie University and is currently a member of the British Columbia Association of Kinesiologists. During her studies Alison gained a growing interest in neurological rehabilitation and continues to pursue this interest completing a Stroke Rehabilitation Course and actively volunteering with the local stroke group in Nanaimo. Through her professional career she has continuously witnessed the positive impact of active rehabilitation on individuals physical and mental well-being.

 

Charmaine Millott, MA Disability Mgmt, RRP, CPHR

Vocational Rehabilitation Consultant

Charmaine worked for over two decades in acute care nursing before acquiring a MA in Disability Management. During her training she gained knowledge in disability management, employment services, and assisting people experiencing homelessness. She has particular expertise in working in complex situations involving brain injuries and mental health. Charmaine also holds the professional designations of Registered Rehabilitation Professional and Chartered Professional of Human Resources. She has worked with Genesis Rehabilitation since 2012 and also holds contracts with other organizations.

Judy Spencer, BSW, RSW, RRP

Health and Wellness Consultant

For over 30 years, Judy has worked with people with health and disability issues in a variety of capacities including social services, disability management and vocational rehabilitation. She has particular expertise in developing realistic rehabilitation and return-to-work plans, negotiating workplace accommodations, and arranging needed services. She has a Bachelor of Social Work and professional designations as a Registered Social Worker (RSW) and a Registered Rehabilitation Professional (RRP). In addition to her work with Genesis Rehabilitation, Judy worked as a Client Services Co-ordinator for the Multiple Sclerosis Society of Canada for almost 20 years.

Karen Cross, MA Disability Mgmt, BSW, CCDP, RRP

Vocational Rehabilitation Consultant

Karen has dedicated her career to working with people in the areas of vocational rehabilitation and career counselling since 1999. She has particular expertise in Vocational Assessment/Transferable Skills Analysis, vocational exploration and planning, career development, return-to-work processes, and identification of clients’ strengths, abilities, needs, and limitations. To her work she brings a client centered, solution focused approach to promote positive outcomes. Karen has a Master of Arts in Disability Management, Bachelor of Social Work, and holds professional designations of Certified Career Development Practitioner (CCDP) and Registered Rehabilitation Professional (RRP).

Lara Williams, BA, MEd Counselling Psychology, RCC, RRP

Vocational Rehabilitation Consultant & Mental Wellness Educator

Drawing from a tenured background working in the Social Services sector, Lara has served families and individuals to address the psychosocial aspects of living with complex conditions. Dedicated to health literacy, she provides clinical counselling to clients across a spectrum of medical challenges. Lara is passionate about acknowledging the intersection between mental health and physiological changes, and this firmly informs her approach to rehabilitation psychology. She inserts a solid foundation of Cognitive Behavioural principles, Neurobiology, Trauma-Informed and Solution-Focused practice to her consulting, utilizing a strengths-based perspective with clients. Lara also enjoys facilitating work-life balance and mental health self-management group programs.

Leah Coffin, MRSc., BSc. Biomedical Physiology & Kinesiology

Occupational Health Consultant & Kinesiologist

Leah received her undergraduate degree in Biomedical Physiology and Kinesiology at Simon Fraser University in 2012. Through Leah’s professional experience, she has developed a knowledge base of rehabilitation and disability management. Leah has years of experience in mental, physical, and neurological health, occupational rehabilitation, and return-to-work program development. Leah currently practices as both a Kinesiologist and an Occupational Health Consultant. Leah also administers the Progressive Goal Attainment Program, and is an experienced Ergonomic Assessor. More recently, Leah completed her Master’s Degree in Rehabilitation Science from UBC in 2020 where she learned how to identify and change outdated healthcare practices.
